Howdy gents, I think you are spot on about your summation of this new all out action direction being Lee driven. I think Harris was equally happy to see this as well. I would caution you to try to enjoy Lees art as much as you can now because once he is gone, it will be dark, dark days for quite awhile. The one thing I think you guys hit the target on is the mis-coloring of Omega Red on page 18 and I think the giveaway is the word balloons. I also think that panel may have lost a line or two in the inking process which is why there is no detail of Omega Reds lower lip, so the panel does come off as pretty bad compared to the rest of the issue (maybe I am giving Lee too much credit).
I also agree with you guys that Maverick is kind of dumb and what really confuses me is that his first appearance in Wolverine #48 is he is called “Morse” and comes in for two panels where he gets shot, and then shots someone before seemingly dying. Several of the other characters in that issue have names that you can kind of guess who they are and it would have made more sense to me that Maverick was “Mastadon” instead as at least that character survivies.
This storyline also suffers from release dates as you really need to read Wolverine #48-50 before reading this issue. While it would not answer all of your questions it at least puts some context around Wolverines interactions and past dealings with some of these characters.
The worst part about Fenris’ boob window is that it changes direction from one panel to the next !
